BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF CARICA PAPAYA LINN LEAF EXTRACT AND AERIAL PARTS OF ANDROGRAPHIS PANICULATA (BURM. F). WALL. EX. NEES EXTRACT
Evaluate the antimicrobial and anthelmintic activity of Carica papaya Linn leaf extract and aerial parts of Andrographis paniculata (Burm. F). Wall. Ex. Nees extracts. The serial dilution and cup (or) well plate methods were used for the antimicrobial study. Six extracts [ethanol, aqueous, hydroalcoholic (80:20)] of Carica papaya leaves and aerial parts of Andrographis paniculata were screened against different bacterial and fungal strains viz, Bacillus subtilus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger were compared with the standard drugs Gentamycin and Ketoconazole. Anthelmintic activities were tested on Pheretima posthuma, when compared to the standard Albendazole. The phytochemical screening results revealed that the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins in all the extracts. All the compounds were shown activity against the bacterial and fungal strains used in this study and AP2 have shown more activity when compared to standard. The anthelmintic results reveal that the compounds exhibit less anthelmintic activity when compared to the standard..
