EXTRACTION AND STANDARDISATION OF CARICA PAPAYA LEAF AND EVALUATION OF ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY

Plants are said to be medicinal when they are used to promote health beyond basic nutrition. Various bioactive compounds present in the plant are responsible for the medicinal properties of the plant. The present study aims to establish pharmacognostic standardization such as macro and microscopic standards, physico-chemical analysis, powder analysis and preliminary phytochemical screening and Antibacterial activity of Carica papaya leaves. Papaya leaves were extracted by using maceration method and the solvent of 70% ethanol. Papaya leaf extracts were tested against Gram negative strains is Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi and Gram positive strain is Staphylococcus aeures were used for the study by agar diffusion method.
