GC-MS STUDY ON THE ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF THYMUS LINEARIS: TO ANALYSE THE VOLATILE OIL (THYMOL)
GC-MS provides the most powerful procedure for the analysis of many organic samples. first of all, separates the components of a mixture by gas chromatography (GC) and then provides additional structural information by mass spectrometry (MS). A "chromatogram" is produced - giving a record of their retention times and an indication of relative concentrations (which may be determined if the detector response is known). Thymus derives its generic name from the Greek verb Thym, which means perfume, referring to its pungent taste and pleasant aroma. Jangali ajwain, also known as Himalayan Thyme or Mother of Thyme, is one of the most important aromatic plants found in the Western Himalayas and has significant medicinal and economic importance. The aim of present study is analyzing Thymus linearis crude extracts using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Recent research has demonstrated the potent antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-parasitic, and antioxidant properties of thyme essential oils. On the other hand, Thymol an essential oil is frequently utilized for the production of herbal tea as well as flavoring agents. we concluded that the essential oil Thymol and its derivative which were present on the plant of thymus species and may helpful in future isolation of Thymol that has a great deal to meet demand
