Herbal products derived from medicinal plants are valued globally, but they are disappearing rapidly. There is no doubt that indigenous and traditional systems of medicine have shown potential to protect from a variety of dreaded ailments (directly or indirectly) since historical times. An authoritative source for preserving and using medicinal plants sustainably, the article examines Strategies and methodologies, trends and developments around the world. A variety of data is available regarding compiled lists of endangered plants, including medicinal plants of India, at state, national, and international levels. As medicinal plants demand continues to increase, they are being overexploited, causing their extinction. Cell and tissue culture amplification of bioactive compounds of interest in vitro is one efficient biotechnological method that can help conserve this resource.
