Indian traditional medicine system was completely based on natural products which primarily include medicinal plants. Different parts of plant have multiple health benefits. India has about 4.5 million plant species and among them estimated 250,000-500,000 plant species have been found to have pharmacological properties. The first line of defense is the preventive antioxidants, which suppress the formation of free radicals. Although the precise mechanism and site of radical formation in vivo are not well elucidated yet, the metal-induced decompositions of hydroperoxides and hydrogen peroxide must be one of the important sources. Thus, the different extracts of plant Syzygium cumini was selected for the assessment of In vitro antioxidant activity
